MINISTER GOVERNOR WELCOMES THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GABON

On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, Dr. Augustin Thiam, Minister and Governor of the Yamoussoukro Autonomous District, welcomed His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Gabonese Republic, to the Hôtel Président. Mr. Nguema was visiting Yamoussoukro for the festivities marking Côte d'Ivoire's independence.
Several administrative and political authorities, members of the Yamoussoukro Autonomous District Bureau, and traditional chiefs participated in the welcoming ceremony. The delegation then proceeded to the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace and the Presidential Palace, where Baba Moris, Secretary of the Chiefs, welcomed the distinguished guests on behalf of all the Akouè chiefs and inquired about their well-being. Speaking on behalf of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the Vice-President of the Gabonese Republic stated that the purpose of this visit was to participate in the Ivorian Independence Day celebrations, as well as to travel to Yamoussoukro to pay tribute to President Félix Houphouët-Boigny, recognized as a man of peace, and to discover the main landmarks of the Ivorian political capital.
The Minister-Governor, Dr. Augustin Thiam, expressed his gratitude to the Gabonese President and his delegation for this fraternal visit. He then presented the various sites on the itinerary before personally leading the delegation throughout the visit.
At the end of this leg of the trip, His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema warmly thanked the Minister-Governor and the entire welcoming delegation for the exceptional hospitality extended to him. The visit ended with a family photo, immortalizing this moment of fraternity and cooperation between Ivory Coast and Gabon.
